Role Summary

An Experienced CNC Laser Operator is responsible for operating computer‐numerical‐control (CNC) laser cutting machines to produce parts or components from metal (or other material) as per engineering drawings or specifications. This role includes setting up and calibrating machines, monitoring performance and quality, ensuring safety, performing minor maintenance, and optimizing processes to meet production goals in terms of quality, cost, and productivity.

Job Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, cut-lists or job orders to understand cut patterns, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Set up CNC laser cutting machines: load material, install correct lens/nozzle, align fixtures, select assist gases, adjust parameters (power, speed, focus etc.).
  • Load and secure material sheets, ensuring proper alignment and stability to prevent shifting or defects during cutting.
  • Operate the laser machine, monitor its operation throughout the cutting cycle, making adjustments as needed to maintain quality and prevent waste.
  • Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy, edge quality, burrs and other defects; ensure they meet specifications and tolerances.
  • Perform routine maintenance: cleaning lenses or optics, replacing nozzles, ensuring assist gases, checking cooling/chiller systems, perhaps lubricating components.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area; follow safety protocols, use personal protective equipment, report abnormalities or malfunctions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement: suggest ways to improve machine performance, reduce material waste, improve process efficiency.
  • Keep records of job orders, materials used, production output, maintenance performed, and quality checks

The role includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Operating and programming a CNC laser cutting machine (Trumpf Laser Cutting Machine) 
  • Attend to basic fault findings of CNC laser cutting machine 
  • Operating equipment in line with Health & Safety procedures and ensuring that this is adhered to at all times 
  • Goods in & Quality Inspection (& Be Prepared to Reject Material is material is Defective / Not to standard 
  • Have a Fork Lift Licence and be able to do extensive Material Handling to the Laser machine and off the Laser machine 
  • Working to tight deadlines and client delivery deadlines to meet daily Shipping deadlines of Laser Cut Orders  
  • Working as part of a team and/or individually in a busy manufacturing environment ensuring that product is manufactured to the expected the standard 
  • Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping 
  • Maintaining quality control throughout all areas of production 
  • Working on various machines including CNC/Presses/Guillotines/Saws 

Qualifications

  • Laser Machine Operator for 5 Years + (Trumpf Laser Machine would be a Distinct Advantage to candidate) 
  • Have Good experience on Fork Lift – 3 Years +
  • Knowledge and use of Laser Cutting Nesting systems  
  • Have a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines 
  • Be able to work on your own initiative and not be afraid to make a decision or bring a recommendation to management 
  • Be resourceful 
  • Work well within a team

Essential Criteria: 

· 2 years’ experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing industry role 

· Must have experience operating CNC Laser machine including the ability to programme 

· Must be able to work shifts
