Experienced CNC Brake Press Operator

Role Summary

An Experienced CNC Brake Press Operator with 5-8 years of experience is a skilled professional who sets up, programs, operates, and maintains CNC brake presses to bend and form sheet metal parts according to blueprints or engineering specifications. Such a person ensures high levels of precision, quality, and safety, and often contributes to process improvements, minimizing downtime, optimizing workflow, and may mentor less experienced operators.

Job Responsibilities

  • Setting up the CNC brake press machine, including selecting and installing appropriate tooling (punches and dies), loading programs, and configuring machine settings.  Look to Program machines so they are efficiently set up to re-run regular jobs via the programme rather than setup the job each time.
  • Select and install appropriate dies, tooling and back gauges and calibrate and align the brakes and back gauges for correct bends.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and job orders.
  • Create or modify machine programs for CNC brake press when required.
  • Use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.) to check part dimensions and tolerances.
  • Carry out routine/preventive maintenance (lubrication, changing tooling, checking hydraulic/pneumatic systems)
  • Suggest or implement optimizations (tooling setup, bend sequences, nesting, reducing scrap).
  • Follow all safety protocols: PPE, safe handling of tools/materials, machine safety.
  • Maintain clean, organized workstation; ensure tools and dies are stored properly.
  • Guide and train junior operators.

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of hands-on experience operating CNC press brake machines in a sheet metal fabrication or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of handling different materials (steel, stainless steel, aluminum etc.), thicknesses, and complex bend jobs.
  • At least a high school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in machining / metal fabricating preferred.
  • Certifications in CNC operation, welding, or sheet metal work are advantageous but not always mandatory.
  • Familiarity with shop math (angles, geometry, conversion between units, bend allowance calculations).
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, machine guarding, PPE.
  • Good physical condition: able to lift, handle heavy or large sheets, work standing for long shifts.
  • Comfortable working in manufacturing environment (noise, dust, temperature variations).
