CNC Machinist

Role Summary

A CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, programming, operating, and maintaining computer numerical control (CNC) machines (mills, lathes, etc.) to manufacture precision parts and components. They interpret technical drawings and specifications, select proper tooling, monitor machine performance, conduct quality checks, and ensure that final machined parts meet the required tolerances, materials, and finish. They also take part in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of machining processes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Programming for at least 3 years
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, or CAD/CAM files to understand specifications: dimensions, tolerances, surface finishes.
  • Plan machining operations: select tools, fixtures, tooling, cutting speeds and feeds; determine sequence of machining steps.
  • Setup CNC machines: install tools, set tool offsets, zero the machine, load programs (G-code, etc.), secure workpiece.
  • Operate CNC machines (milling, turning, drilling, etc.), monitor performance, make adjustments during machining to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks using measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM, etc.) to verify tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues: tool wear, part defects, vibration, incorrect feeds/speeds etc. and correct or escalate as needed.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on machines (cleaning, lubrication, tool changes, checking coolant and other consumables).
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment; comply with safety regulations, PPE, machine guards etc.
  • Document work: keep records of programs used, machine settings, tools, inspection results, maintenance logs.
  • Suggest or implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, improve quality.

Qualifications

  • Mandatory experience for 2-3 years
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent
